Obituary for Richard Wayne Dean

Richard Wayne Dean, a memorable man with no shortage of nicknames (Pops, Doc, Doc Dean, Dickie Dean, Rich, Old Fart...), passed away on July 15, 2018 in Middletown, CA due to a heart attack. He was born in Loma Linda, CA on July 23, 1948 to John & Betty (Kirkwood) Dean.

Richard attended PUC Prep in Angwin and served as an Army Combat Medic in Vietnam. After returning he worked at K&K Metal in St Helena followed by 25 years at Pinole Point Steel in Richmond. He later worked for a great friend at Napa Valley Muffler then opened RWD Kustom Fab & Repair before moving to Hidden Valley Lake in 2011.

His love of cars started at a young age and never faded. If you spent much time with him you probably heard about one (if not all of his favorites)...the MG Midget, '56 Bel Air or '65 Nova to name a few. In younger years he enjoyed riding & racing motorcycles around the countryside of Knoxville with his buddies (aka The Knights). He later passed on his love of cars to his daughter, Kelly, building & racing their Nova's together at Sears Point. Richard also enjoyed the occasional round of golf and had some memorable (and painful) ski trips with the guys. With patience and perseverance he taught his daughters to ski between his knees.

In more recent years you could always count on finding Richard sitting outside in his favorite chair with a Coke in hand or at the local watering hole...The Green Door (when living in Napa), Mulligan's or more often than not Nobles Saloon. These weren't just bars to him. He had his seat & was known by everyone, to him it was "family" and a second home.

Richard was predeceased by his parents, John & Betty Dean of St. Helena, and his brother, John Dean of San Jose. He is survived by his daughters Angela Dean of Salem, Kelly (Filippo) Bianco of Hidden Valley Lake, along with grandchildren Calissa Danielson of Salem, and Giovanni, Giancarlo & Vincenzo Bianco of Hidden Valley Lake.

Richard will forever be remembered for his love of family, endless collections, old cars & smoky bars. A memorial service will be held one day shy of his 70th birthday on Sunday July 22nd at 1pm at Jones & Lewis Clear Lake Memorial Chapel in Lower Lake with potluck style celebration of life immediately following.
